Sophie is a communications professional who enjoys building community, fostering meaningful connections, and helping people feel like they belong.

Born in Beirut, Lebanon, Sophie has called the DC area home for more than twenty years. Along the way, she has also lived in Paris and Montréal. Drawing on her matrilineal Sephardi Jewish heritage, she has spent the past several years deepening her commitment to Jewish living, learning, and community. This ongoing journey continues to shape her understanding of what it means to build a Jewish life and navigate the world as a Lebanese Jew today.

As a member of both the Den staff team and the community, Sophie is passionate about creating spaces where people can learn, connect, and feel at home. Since joining the Den in 2024, she has found great meaning in strengthening the organization’s communications, deepening community engagement, and helping build opportunities for Jewish learning, belonging, and connection throughout the DMV.

Sophie’s professional experience spans nonprofits, education, and community-focused organizations. Before transitioning into communications and operations, she taught French language and literature, an experience that deepened her appreciation for storytelling, cultural exchange, and meaningful human connection. She brings expertise in communications, digital engagement, marketing, operations, and relationship-building, along with a passion for creating welcoming and meaningful experiences. A native French speaker, Sophie is also fluent in English, German, and Lebanese Arabic, and continues to deepen her Hebrew language skills. Having lived and studied in the United States, France, and Canada, she brings an international perspective to her work.

Sophie lives in North Bethesda with Soso, a very friendly German Shepherd mix who wears a hot pink tutu and only responds to “Princess”, and Julia, an exceptionally large black cat who runs the household. Outside of work, Sophie enjoys reading, writing, baking, expanding her collection of houseplants, hosting friends and loved ones for coffee, tea, movie nights, or Shabbat dinners, and convincing herself that she definitely has room for one more kitten (…or a few!).
